Satoko's arc in Higurashi can get pretty bad and Maria in Umineko is even worse because it's present in every arc (so far, I'm in the middle of the fourth of eight arcs there so who knows maybe one arc can go by without Rosa's quality parenting).īut still if you've never seen the Higurashi anime and haven't been spoiled on the major plot twists you're in for a fun ride. There is a patch from the same source as the patch that gives you the PS2 graphics and the original music that aims to fix some of the odder grammatical choices like "You're here with you friend?"Īnd both Higurashi and Umineko I would feel bad about recommending without a trigger warning for child abuse (physical and psychological, no sexual abuse involved). They're re-translating for the upcoming Steam release but when I last looked they had only finished re-translating the first of the four question arcs and were less than 8% done with the second. The translation Manga Gamer did for Higurashi is rather slipshod but the game itself is still good. Umineko is fully capable of standing on it's own but you'll miss the injokes and shout outs and there are some spoilers for Higurashi contained in Umineko. Read Higurashi (and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai, the "answer arcs") before Umineko. I understand there's one I haven't reached yet in late Umineko as well). There are no choice points (well one in late Higurashi but it literally does not matter.

And without the update to the PS2 graphics there is one (non-sexualized) shot of the little blond girl nude in one arc. It's non-H but be prepared for pervy dialogue and the occasional bit of fan service.
